Vandiperiyar Accident, Sabarimala, 102 Deaths reported
According to present report of Vandiperiyar Accident,in Sabarimala about 102 devotees had been the victims of the accident. The dead bodies have been kept in Kumali Government Hospital. Approximately 55 dead bodies are identified by the relatives.Postmortem of 29 victims have been completed right now. Among the victims 18 are from Karnataka. People from Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, including a few children are also among those who lost their lives. The accident had occurred around at 8.15 night while Sabarimala pilgrims were going back to their home after the the makaravilakku festival in Sabarimala on January 14. Over 2 lakh pilgrims were at Pulmedu where the tragedy occured. Many pilgrims and their relatives rushed to Pulmedu where the accident had occurred. Four injured persons were taken to Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
The honorable Chief Minsiter V.S. Achuthanandan declared the compensation of Rs. 1 laksh for the family that loss their relatives and Rs. 50,000 for deadly injured persons.All rescue operations in Pulmedu are going as much as fast. Approximate 80 ambulances are here in Pulmedu to carry the dead bodies. Most of the victims are from Andhra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
