Cherian Philip is a popular political figure in Kerala through his well known programme 'Cherian Philip pratikarikkunnu' on the Kairali Malayalam TV Channel. He entered politics through Kerala Students Union (KSU). He was born on 21st November, 1953 at Chengannur in a Syrian Christian (Marthoma) family. Cherian Philip was elder son of K C Philip and Kunnjoonjamma. He had his primary education at Thrissur Caldian Syrian school and Irinjalakkuda government school. Cherian Philip had his high school studies at St. Joseph's high School, Trivandrum. He had his predegree from Mar Ivanios College Thiruvananthapuram and completed his MA in malayalm from University College Thiruvananthapuram. In 1967 Cherian Philip entered Kerala politics through Kerala Students Union (KSU) as unit President. It is worth mentioning that at the same time Sri Oommen Chandy was its president. He was active right from his schooldays – Being the school leader of St. Joseph's high School, Trivandrum had really enhanced his leadership skills. He was elected as the Secretary of the Kerala University Union and Senate Member of Kerala University in 1974. With his political skills and experience Cherian Philip became the General Secretary of KSU in 1975 and later its President in 1979-80. Cherian Philip then became the Vice-President of Kerala Pradesh Youth Congress in 1980. Cherian Philip was an influential General Secretary of Youth Congress 1982.
