Oommen Chandy, the opposition leader had won the Puthuppally constituency assembly in the 2011 Kerala election. Another important point is that Oommen chandy was given the serve India media award for the most popular leader. He was the Chief minister of Kerala from 31 August 2004 to 18 May 2006.

Through the Kerala students union, Oommen Chandy started his political career. Oommen Chandy is a very popular politician. Since 2006, Oommen Chandy has been the opposition leader in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The serve India media award for the most popular leader was given to Oommen Chandy. The serve India media award consists of Rs 10,0001, a memento as well as a citation. Also note that he was the 19th chief minister of Kerala from 31 August 2004 to 18 May 2006.

Oommen chandy received a total of 69922 votes. But suja susan George received only 36667 votes. That means Oommen Chandy won the election by getting 33255 votes. Another important fact is that he have been elected to the Kerala legislative assembly in the years 1970, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006 & now 2011
