National Institute of Technology, Calicut is probably the best Engineering institute which offers BTech and MTech in Kerala. It is established in 1961 with a motto of "Tamaso Ma Jyothirgamaya" which is a Sanskrit quote which means "Lead from the darkness to the light". NITC is located on a place known Chattamangalam in Calicut district of Kerala with 150 academic staffs, 1600 post graduates and 700 post graduates. NITC was earlier known as Regional Engineering College and is the only one engineering institute in Kerala which is of national importance.
During the establishing period in 1963 NITC was affiliated to Kerala University and the classes were held in Government Polytechnic situated in West Hill Calicut. After those initial hardship periods, the college was then shifted to Chathamangalam and was monitored under Central Government and became one among the 20 National Institute of Technology in the country. NIT status was awarded for this college in June 2002 and Regional Engineering College began to know in the name National Institute of Technology, Calicut. Admission to National Institute of Technology, Calicut is in All India level. NIT has no connection with Kerala Engineering examination. National Institute of Technology, Calicut admissions are based on ranks secured by the students in All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). NITC provides admission for both B Tech, B Arch and M Tech. AIEEE is the basic examination for B Tech/B Arch and GATE examination for M Tech. National Institute of Technology, Calicut also provides opportunities for research and development in technical field along with MCA, M Arch, PhD in all Engineering disciples etc.
