Idea Star Singer Season 5 grand finale was held on September 24, 2011 at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium Thiruvananthapuram. The show was telecasted live on Asianet prime channel. Season 5 started with 39 contestants and gone though 14 stages. 3 of 8 Semi Finalists,Athira Krishnan,Shaeer and Deepak were eliminated from the show. The judges announced that all the contestants performed their best and that made them much difficult to announce the result.
The final contestants were Antony John, Akhil Krishnan, Kalpana, Mridula and Emmanuel Henry. Out of the five, Mridula, Emmanuel and Kalpana got entry into the final three and at last the Idea star singer award was given to Kalpana and got the 1 crore Villa sponsored by Travancore Bulders. Kalpana, hailing from Madras had been a consistent singer throughout the event.
The presence of Ganagandravan Yesudas, malayalam film hero Pritvi Raj and Laxi Gopalaswami made the show more colourful. Antony got Mohanlal's special cash award of 5 lakhs for the best singer.
