The Travancore Devaswom Board had shortlisted 13 priests for Malikappuram Devi Temple & 10 for Sabarimala Temple respectively. On 18 October 2011, Melsanthis of the Ayyappa Temple & the Malikappuram Devi Temple at Sabarimala will be selected. There is another speciality for the day 18 October 2011. It is the first day of the Malayalam month Thulam. On the basis of a personal interview that was conducted at Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala state, India, the Travancore Devaswom Board had shortlisted 13 priests for Malikappuram Devi Temple & 10 for Sabarimala Temple respectively. On 17 November 2011(first day of Malayalam month Vrischikom), the new priests will take the charge for a period of one year.
On 17 October 2011, Ezhikode Sasi Namboodiri, who is the present head priest, will open the sanctum sanctorum of the Ayyappa temple at 5: 30 PM. But on 18 October 2011, Kandararu Maheswararu(tantri), will perform the Ashtadravya Ganapati Homom in the morning, that marks the beginning of the five-day monthly rituals. In the presence of devotees, the Travancore Devaswom Board authorities will prepare those lots at the temple sopanam itself. The Kerala High Court has appointed a special commissioner who will pick a child devotee present at the temple, in order to draw the lots.
