Kerala Government has already made clear to public that Makaravilakku is a not a miracle and it is a self created light by government authority. Ponnambalamedu hill, where the Makaravilakku appears is in the hands of KSEB. That means that light is produced by KSEB. A former employee of KSEB, Shivananda said that Makaravilakku is not a miracle and he has witnessed the creation of Makaravilakku in 1981. Also the former Devaswom minister G. Sudhakaran said that the Government has no intention of examining the Makaravilakku because it is a faith of pilgrimages for hundreds of years. Last year Kerala Yukthivadi Sangham climbs the hills and does the same process as Devaswom did. They successfully created number of Makaravilakku in the hills by using camphor and sacks. Thiruvithamkoor Devaswom board explained to the high court of Kerala that the Makaravilakku is an artificially created one by KSEB and forest departments. They also said that the board has never told to the public that Makaravilakku is a miracle. The controversy arises because of the similarity between Makara Jyothi and Makaravilakku. Earlier Makaravilakku was lightened by tribal peoples who live in forests of Sabarimala. After their extinction the Government took the responsibility of Makaravilakku. How Makaravilakku is created?
Makaravilakku is created by burning large amount of camphor in a bowl from the bottom side of Ponnambalamedu hills. Then this camphor is extinguished by using wet sacks. This process is repeated for three times which results in appearing Makaravilakku light above Ponnambalamedu hills for three times. The correct time for the Makaravilakku light is synchronized by using wireless services.
