Mahela Jayawardene, Former captain of Sri Lankan will lead the Kochi Tuskers Kerala team. He was the member of Punjab Kings XI in the last three Indian Premier League matches held in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He is a right hand batsman cum Bowler from Sri Lanka. He entered into the Sri Lankan cricket as a Test player in 1997. He played his debut match against India at Colombo. He remained in the Srilankan cricket team as a Key player. Later in 1998 he played his debut ODI against Zimbabwe at Colombo. He was the captain of the Sri Lankan team that entered the finals of the 2007 ICC world cup.
Jayawardene is popular in the cricket field for his classic play and as a authoritative captain. Blessed with excellent hand-eye coordination and a fine technique, Jayawardene scores his runs all around the wicket. His batting style is entirely different from others. The most memorable are the cuts and dabs he plays behind the stumps, mostly off spinners, but also against quick bowling, when bat makes contact with ball delightfully late. He had been a major key player in many of their winning matches. Srilanka had won test matches in England and New Zeland under his captaincy. His team had reached the finals of the 2007 ICC Cricket World cup. He quit his captaincy after the ODI series defeat against India. The above achievements show that he will be a good and motivating captain for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. More than captain he is also a good T20 player. His century against Zimbabwe in the World Twenty20 in 2010 is a shining example to show his ability in T20 cricket. He was a precious player for the Punjab Kings XI for the last three seasons.Actions from Previous IPL
