Piravom assembly constituency bye-election date preponed from March 18 To March 17. The all-party meeting conducted by chief electoral officer Nalini Netto, had unanimously decided to advance the Piravom by-poll to March 17, a day ahead of the scheduled March 18 date. Both the UDF and LDF have been demanding to change in the poll date since the Election Commission made the announcement. Piravom by-poll was necessitated by the death of TM Jacob, who was the food minister in the Umman Chandy cabinet. After the death of TM Jacob, the strength of the UDF in the assembly reduced to 71, including the speaker, against 68 seats held by the LDF.
