Fever Cases rising in Kerala
According to the recent reports from various agencies, a large number of people have been hospitalized due to dengue, yellow fever, cholera and rat fever in the state. This article also gives the symptoms of the disease,.
Many fever cases has been reported from various part of Kerala. Most of the cases are reported from the Malabar region. The death toll due leptospirosis (Rat Fever) cases in the state has gone up to 14 with nine more persons succumbing to death. A large number of people also have been hospitalized due to dengue, yellow fever, cholera and rat fever in the state. The Kerala government has appointed a special group of doctors to study regarding the various reasons for the spreading and transmission of this fever. Meanwhile the district collectors have called up a meeting pf the panchayath secretaries of Kozhikode, Kannur and Kannur districts to discuss the various measures to be taken to control the spreading of these diseases.
Health Minister informed the Medias that he has given all necessary instructions to the Health Department to prevent this contagious disease. He also informed that the essential drugs are available in the district hospitals. The Health Services director has warned against washing and bathing in murky waters and has instructed the use of gloves and socks for animal caretakers and agricultural workers to prevent the spread of rat fever.
Leptosprosis (Rat Fever) is an infectious disease cause by a type of bacteria called spirochete. This disease is transmitted by many animals which includes rats, raccoons, foxes and other vermin. It is even transmitted through contact with soil or water that are contaminated with the waste products of infected animals. The main symptoms of the disease are dry cough, fever, headache, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and shaking chills.These symptoms may take 2 - 26 days (at an average of 10 days)to develop in the body of infected patient. Any person having any of such symptoms must consult a doctor immediately and should take necessary precautions.
As a preventive measure to control these diseases, the first and foremost step is to destruct the mosquito bleeding spots such as broken vessels, bottles, coconut shells etc. It is recommended to use handkerchiefs while coughing and sneezing.
