The MEG or the Madras Engineering Group of the Indian army has almost completed their work on Bailey Bridge that is constructed across a check dam near Malikappuram at Sabarimala Sannidhanam. In a simple function that is going to be held at Sannidhanam on 5 October 2011, the steel structure will be launched jointly by Anto Antony MP & MEG Commandant Gurdeep Singh. The construction cost of this bridge was Rs 75 lakhs. It should be noted that this 40 metre long & 3.3 metre wide Bailey Bridge is part of a diversion road that is under construction linking Sannidhanam with the Chandranandan road. This diversion road would be ready by 31 October 2011 & will be opened to the pilgrims by 14 November 2011. The beautification work on the bridge-cum-diversion road with attractive lighting arrangements will also be completed by the mid of November.
When completed, this diversion road will be used as an exit route for devotees who are returning after Darshan at the Ayyappa temple. The diversion road which is 240 metre long was designed by the Chennai based Pithavadiyan & Partners & the estimated cost is found to be Rs 122 lakhs.
