Renowned critic, writer & orator Dr Sukumar Azhikode has been chosen for this year Mathrubhumi Literary Award instituted by the Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi. This award, considered to be the biggest literature award in Malayalam language was given for his overall contribution to the Malayalam literary world. This award consists of a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs, citation & a statuette. This great writer, critic as well as orator Dr Sukumar Azhikode had also won several other awards like Kerala Sahithya Academy Award, Vayalar Award, Rajaji Award & the Indian Sahithya Academy Award respectively. The most famous work of Dr Sukumar Azhikode is Tatvamasi, which is an authoritative book on Vedas, Upanishads & Indian Philosophy.
The jury members were Vishnunarayanan Namboodiri, Dr K S Ravikumar & Dr Khadeja Mumthaz. In the previous year Vishnunarayanan Namboodiri, Kovilan, Thikkodiyan, Pala Narayanan Nair, M V Devan, M T Vasudevan Nair, O V Vijayan, Akkitham & M Mukundan received this prestigious award.
