Kerala State School Athletics 2011 - Ernakulam Champions
The Ernakulam district retained the overall championship in the Kerala state School athletics 2011 meet which concluded on Sunday. This is the eighth consecutive championship win for the district. Ernakulam got 278 points in the meet. Read more below.
The Ernakulam district retained the overall championship in the 55th Kerala state School athletics meet which came to an end on Sunday. This is the eighth consecutive championship win for the district. Ernakulam bagged the trophy with 278 points in the meet that was held the Maharaja's College ground. The Palakkad district came second with 232 points and Kozhikode stood at third position with 76 points. The Trophy for school championship was reclaimed by The Saint Mar Basil Higher Secondary school of Kothamangalam with 150 points. Any other school could not raise a threat to Mar Basil. The Kalladi High School in Palakkad secured the second position with 80 points. St. George HSS, Kothamangalam, the champions of previous year, could only come to third with 71 points. The Parali HSS, Palakkad stood at 4th position with 68 points.
However, in the performance, Ernakulam has lost its previous monotomy. Comparing to last year, they lost about 50 points in this meet. Palakkad and Malappuram has made a huge leap forward. Ernakulam is the champions in Senior category. Junior, Subjunior championship is won by Palakkad.
Against the expectations, the meet did not witness much records either. There were only 13 records created or broken in the 94 disciplenes. Sreenith Mohan from Thrissur broke the National record in Sub-junior High jump. Jijin Vijayan completed the sprint double and equalled the National record in 100m race.
The Closing ceremony was inaugurated by the State Education Minister PK Abdurab. The minister said that the prize money will be raised from the next year. He also announced that the sportspersons will be provided insurance upto Rs. 10000 next year onwards.Point Table
